Prologue
Why did the Sanhedrin, the religious rulers of Israel,
reject the Messianic claim of Jesus of
Nazareth? Did He not have the right
credentials? Did He not perform the
correct, authenticating miracles? Did they consider Him an impostor? Or were
there other political expediencies dictating their actions? Was their decision
a proper, considered judgement, or were they already predisposed to reject the
claim of any individual who wished to change the status quo? This book examines
the New Testament record and scrutinises the conflict between Jesus of Nazareth
and the Sanhedrin, since the consequences of that decision, by a relatively
small group of Jewish leaders, has affected all humankind for nearly two
millennia.
At the heart of the conflict was the matter of the miracles
of the Messiah. They will be set in the
context of the Jewish culture of the day, and their significance weighed.
